Ten or eight years ago, on a visit to Israel, I was amazed to hear an Israeli analyst declare that we "are now in the era of managing the conflict." Somehow this was perceived -- and it is still perceived by many in Israel's security establishment -- as preferable to actually resolving the conflict by taking bold and necessary actions (Hebrew media reports the opposition of several Israeli security leaders to the strike because there is a proposal that is being negotiated...). As you indicate, this attitude no longer prevails in Washington (hopefully not only for the remainder of Trump's presidency but also after it), and it may also suggest that resolve and determination are also starting to gain adherents in Israel.

Perhaps this was only an equilibrium while there were two sides to balance. But in the last 12 months, the Iranian side of the balance has proved to be very weak:

- most of the senior Hamas leaders in Gaza killed

- Hezbollah seriously hit to the point that Lebanon's government dares to talk about disarming it

- Assad's government gone

- Iran unable to defend even the skies over Teheran against Israel

The only piece missing was to destroy Hamas' external leadership and Qatar would have nothing to mediate.
